Vimanmek Royal Mansion
The first permanent residence in the Dusit Garden was Vimanmek Mansion, built in 1900 by
royal command of king Rama V. The King had the Munthaturattanaroj Residence in
Chuthathujrachathan at Koh Sri Chang, Chonburi, dismantled and rebuilt in the Dusit Garden
under the supervision of HRH Prince Narissaranuwaddhiwongse. The celebration for the
completion of Vimanme Mansion was held on March 27, 1901. King Rama V then moved his
residence from the Grand Palace to stay permanently at Vimanmek Mansion for five years until
the completion of Amporn Satarn Residence in 1906 where he lived until his death in 1910.
Vimanmek Mansion was then closed down and members of the royal family moved back to the
Grand Palace.

The entrance of Vimanmek Royal Mansion. When you go there you can take an English or Thai
tour, going around for free. There is a tour every fifteen minutes. You can't go in with shorts, you
have to wear trousers or skirt which is not shorter than knee length. You can borrow a sarong from
the ticket office to wrap around your waist if you have shorts. When I went there, I saw some
people sit down and point their feet to a picture of the King. If you do that, Thai people won't say
anything (but some might) but better not to do it because it's like you are not showing respect to
our King. This is the same when you go and sit down in a temple. Please do not point your feet
to the Buddha image or anyone.

The pavilion for tourists who come here. They can watch shows from kids, monkeys etc. You
can even watch Thai fighting with a wooden sword.
